Now You See Him, Now You Don’t

  1. Strange, I too have been watching the Coronavirus Task Force and did not see “a press conference gone sour”. In fact, I saw too many recognizable “reporters” repeatedly ask “gotcha” questions apparently designed to advance their status among their clique of Trump haters instead of doing their fundamental job of probing for and reporting truthful information. A perfect and recent example is how many in “the press” ignored the President’s immediate clarification of a reporter’s clear misunderstanding. Trump said: “It wouldn’t be through injection. We’re talking about through almost a cleaning, sterilization of an area. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t work.” Yet, more like Goebel’s propagandists than anything admirable, a great many chose instead to distort and lie about the “injection” comment. Not only are some reporters anxious to spread false belief, on his show the night of 8 May 2020, Jimmy Kimmel, in an unfunny manner, repeated the “injection” lie to all his audience.
Those who intentionally spread false ideas should be reacted to as if they are carrying and spreading a deadly virus. Even the highest quality and best intended logic goes astray if premises used are not true.

Daedal2207 compares this virus to the 1917 Spanish flu. Somehow, he believes that during that epidemic, it was the relaxation of social distancing that increased the killing of so many, and that provides a lesson for today. Aside from the fact that 1917 did not apply today’s degree of “social distancing”, there is the fact that the Spanish flu was killing more equally the healthy, both young and old. Sweden today has chosen to go for herd immunity. By protecting who are the most vulnerable, and allowing exposure to those highly likely to survive (if they even know they have had the virus), the worst of economic life killing destruction, and the worst of Covid-19 life-killing destruction can be avoided.
