MeTooism and Historical Democracy

As the somewhat ghoulish battle over the remains of Charles Manson goes on in the courts,we are reminded of the sexual mesmerizing capability of a rogue leader. That almost all of these are male is taken for granted and it is forgotten that several women are in the ranks of despoilers.A closer look shows us that power over others is a key factor and that power has been primarily wielded by men.So what do we do ? Let sexual exploitation go because boys will be boys and female exploitation is unusual? I rather think not but the grope, the feel, the unwelcome ogle are far too common to expect all of the recipients to follow up and most do not.Should there be a statutory limitation ? Probably, depending on the nature of the act. Most of the states have legal definitions that prescribe actions, many unwisely and unwell.Have many of the ” victims” colluded ? Of course, but if the actions are part of the only socialization game going and it means being left out it is hard to see their being voluntarily left out of history.
There is however a moral plane involving our old friends Good and Evil and we as a constitutionally democratic society must present ourselves on the highest plane which is,unfortunately for our Trumpeter, not immediately transactional. So must we ” shun the appearance of all evil” and put our moral ” best foot forward “.POTUS can’t present to the world as an a-s grabbing c–t esser who brags about it.The resignations and suicides? All behavior has to be assessed in the historical context of its time. The pendulum always swings far before adjusting to its new setting.

  1. Thank you for any other excellent post. The
place else may just anybody get that kind of info in such a
perfect approach of writing? I’ve a presentation subsequent week, and I’m on the look for such information.

  2. It is a pleasure to find myself mostly in agreement. However, in what he thought was a private conversation we know that Trump confided to Billy Bush his observation that “When you are a star, they let you do it.” We know that this statement was recorded without his knowledge. On the basis of this conversation it isn’t accurate to insinuate that he “bragged” TO THE WORLD that he did these things. The fact that he is a star logically supports an assumption that he did these things (and they let him do it). It is also true that on many occasions Trump presented himself to the world as a liberal-thinking male: In 1990 he was depicted on the cover of “Playboy” magazine. There was a caption, “Nice magazine, Want to sell it?” Trump did not run from the playboy image. In fact, the popularity of the magazine is proof that playful sexuality (particularly for males) has been a prevailing and powerful fashion for many decades. As Daedal2207 says, “All behavior has to be assessed in the historical context of its time”. Apparently a great many voters were not offended by disclosures that fit neatly within this historical context.
