Thank you SB for repeating my foundational statement. Measurable, and good logic, increase the probability that what we think is true actually correlates positively with the real world. The following describes how “style” can confuse this process. Its emotional impact is often used to manipulate instead of enlighten. Especially among the Leftists, stylistic misrepresentation occupies the major portion of their argument.
For instance:
Is Trump actually the person “they” are describing?
An acquaintance told me that her husband’s job was to “brand” clients who wanted their names linked to specific qualities. Advertising arts are part of my history too. It was understood that style could make poison look like sugar and sugar like poison.
Special effort is needed to avoid being manipulated. Style must be separated from content. Style feels good.
Understanding content allows us to be good.
CNN and MSNBC are stand outs amid a vast field of “news” sources using style to “brand” President Trump as something poisonous to the future. For them, selling a socialist agenda is more important than truth.
“Content” is found not in what an enemy’s distorting style insinuates, but by what can actually be measured. Some examples: The rapid growth of a productive economy. Record highs regarding minority employment. Energy independence. Greater foreign economic support for NATO. Greatly diminished illegal immigration. The orchestration of variable business interests needed to rapidly produce a Covid-19 vaccine.
These six measurable achievements are just a few of many that can easily be found in reliable statistics. If your sources are ignoring, or worse, distorting or denying that they exist, you can know that your sources have agendas other than those of truth. They are manipulating you. Knowing this,, you have great reason to be concerned!
daedal2207: We seem to be in another installment/chapter of “The Twighlight Zone.” It could probably be an entertaining dystopian tale (if that were an audience’s predilection) but for the fact that we are actually living the experience. In your post “Pandemics and Politics Continued,” the facts are indisputable. All continents have been touched by COVID-19, and with the availability of today’s communications, it is clearly self-evident that not only is a national effort required, but a global cooperation essential. Now is not the time to celebrate ignorance. And, yet …

“Ambulatory psychotic” is a respectful, clinical description. We are dealing with a nut case, surrounded by questionable “practitioners” whose hospital affiliations cannot be verified.
“ Before Trump and his supporters embrace Immanuel’s medical expertise, though, they should consider other medical claims Immanuel has made—including those about alien DNA and the physical effects of having sex with witches and demons in your dreams. Immanuel, a pediatrician and a religious minister, has a history of making bizarre claims about medical topics and other issues. She has often claimed that gynecological problems like cysts and endometriosis are in fact caused by people having sex in their dreams with demons and witches. She alleges alien DNA is currently used in medical treatments, and that scientists are cooking up a vaccine to prevent people from being religious. And, despite appearing in Washington, D.C. to lobby Congress on Monday, she has said that the government is run in part not by humans but by ‘reptilians’ and other aliens. https://www.thedailybeast.com/stella-immanuel-trumps-new-covid-doctor-believes-in-alien-dna-demon-sperm-and-hydroxychloroquine
We continue to be the victims … yes, victims … of a sociopath who has been a failure all his life and thrives in chaos and hate. He must be writhing at the thought that he will NEVER be loved and admired as leaders such as the one whose funeral we witnessed yesterday. At this time, I would like to turn the floor to our opposing point of view … the honorable DS who on 10 April 2920 established his standards/criteria, and suggest a validation of them. Recognizing that DS is “very secure in the philosophic principles and care little about what others FEEL,” may we request that he specifically address his rules (supporting footnotes would be appreciated):
1. … the best goal to pursue is that of least human suffering, …
2. … my methods which are reliant on the laws of physics, facts and logic …
3. … It is interestingly fun and fascinating to see so many brilliant minds at ease labeling Donald Trump as an evil, incompetent, destroyer of humanity’s future when there is (particularly in the last three years) so much MEASURABLE AND LOGICAL EVIDENCE that should lead objective minds to accept the opposite as a more likely truth.

… My approach is less moralistic than that of Frum (and many others). For me it is what most likely works to better the human future, rather than, who or what is morally good or superior. This requires me to keep my arguments first of all rooted in fundamental philosophic principles as to what is the most probable truth of things, and then, from that base trying to logically examine what actions will most likely work to most efficiently and safely advance us toward worthy goals. As regards social structure and politics, I figure that the best goal to pursue is that of least human suffering, which includes maximizing the habitats needed for human success. SB apparently thinks this approach is smug and maybe pompous. It is true that I am very secure in the philosophic principles and care little about what others FEEL about my methods which are reliant on the laws of physics, facts and logic (but not who or what is evil or good). But I do care a lot about how others may THOUGHTFULLY provide empirical and logical evidence that allows me to correct possible misconceptions and thus become more accurate in my judgments. It is interestingly fun and fascinating to see so many brilliant minds at ease labeling Donald Trump as an evil, incompetent, destroyer of humanity’s future when there is (particularly in the last three years) so much MEASURABLE AND LOGICAL EVIDENCE that should lead objective minds to accept the opposite as a more likely truth. What is apparently a widespread and major derangement is a wondrous thing to behold and leads to a great many intriguing questions speculating as to what it means to be human.
